Introduction

JSSEPC is a secondary-school-student-based, registered, non-profit making and educational organization in Hong Kong which aims at arousing public interest in science, fostering scientific research, encouraging cooperation between local schools and promoting exchange of scientific knowledge among adolescents all over the world. The annual Joint School Science Exhibition (hereafter JSSE) has been held smoothly and successfully in the past years, achieving all the above aims.

For the past forty-four years, the Joint School Science Exhibition (hereafter JSSEPC or the preparation committee) was held both successively and successfully by the preparation committee. The Joint School Science Exhibition Preparation Committee has the greatest number of participating schools in Hong Kong, making the JSSEPC one of the most prestigious joint school organizations in Hong Kong.

Bearing the theme "Disaster Counteraction Scientific Innovation", the 45th JSSEPC hopes to address the safety hazards brought by natural disasters and man-made scourge to the public, specifically on the areas of prevention, protection and crisis management against disasters. We also hope that students can promote the concept that prevention and protection against disasters is practicable for the public and raise awareness towards the importance of safety, so as to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by disasters in the society.
